Watch: Beauden Barrett accepts award for Brodie Retallick, uses chance to promote mullet movement

November 26, 2018

Brodie Retallick wasn't on hand to accept his trophy for try of the year at this year's World Rugby awards but he'll probably be impressed with Beauden Barrett's efforts in his place.

Barrett accepted the award on Retallick's behalf in Monte Carlo this morning and made sure to mention Retallick's mullet in the speech.

"That was the early days of his mullet too," Barrett said, referencing the try against the Wallabies from August where he used a dummy pass to score.

"It's come a long way since then."

Retallick and All Blacks teammate Liam Squire set up the mullet movement inside the team earlier this year and have since seen their numbers grow to include the likes of Sam Cane, Jordie Barrett and Beauden .

Barrett made sure to compliment Retallick on more than just his luscious locks though.

"The way he is running around, the big boys are required to pass a ball and run a lot - he's a top player."

Barrett added Retallick would likely hide the trophy away in his garage amongst his car collection.

"He's not one to brag."
