Watch: Disturbing video emerges of Toronto pedestrian attack suspect telling arresting officer to to 'shoot me in the head'

Video has been posted online showing the moment a man was arrested for allegedly running down numerous people, killing nine, in the Canadian city of Toronto.

Toronto Police have confirmed nine people have died and sixteen were injured after a man drove a white rental van along the footpath about 5.30am this morning, NZT.

The video shows a sole police officer pulling up next to the man, who is standing near a damaged white van.

"Come on, get down!" the officer yells.

"Kill me!" the suspect responds.

"No, get down!"

"I have a gun in my pocket!"

"I don't care - get down!"

"I have a gun in my pocket!"

"Get down or you'll be shot!"

"Shoot me in the head!"

At this point the video pans down and misses the moment of arrest, but other witnesses have said the man then surrendered and threw away his weapon.

Police have not revealed any details or the identity of the suspect.
