Powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes off Tongan coast

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck under the sea near Tonga.

The quake was located 170km west of the island at a depth of 10km, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck in the early hours of the morning, Reuters reported.

There was no tsunami warning or any reports of damage on the island.
