Blues coach Leon MacDonald is hailing the performances of veteran Ma'a Nonu, in the wake of last night's 32-29 victory over the Waratahs at Eden Park, suggesting an All Blacks return could be on the cards.

As the Blues sealed a fourth straight victory, 36-year old Nonu defied his age to run the Waratahs ragged, grabbing himself a try in the process.

Speaking to media afterwards, coach MacDonald was full of nothing but praise for Nonu, indicating that the double-World Cup winner could be in with a shot of making Steve Hansen's All Blacks squad later this year.

"What he's showing is you can't write him off," MacDonald said.

"He's 36 years old and he's going right to the end of 80 minutes. You've got to give him respect because he'll go straight past you if you don't.

"He's playing good rugby, we're really grateful to have him with us this year and he's doing a great job for us."

Nonu will be competing against the likes of Sonny Bill Williams, Ryan Crotty, Jack Goodhue, Anton Lienert-Brown and Ngani Laumape for a spot in the All Blacks' midfield later this year.
