Rieko Ioane, Beauden Barrett show off Movember efforts – ‘I started in January’

November 9, 2018

Ioane and Barrett admit there aren't many backs capable of a fine moustache - but Ryan Crotty could get close.

The art of a good moustache appears to have All Blacks backs such as Rieko Ioane and Beauden Barrett stumped.

The pair were asked by media today if any players in the backline were going to go for facial hair that was "a little more advanced than a slug across the top lip".

The duo gave a very honest response.

"I don't know if the boys are capable," Ioane said.

"I got a head start in January."

The pair noted there was one back in the squad who has sported serious facial hair previously - Ryan Crotty.

"He has potential, we've seen the beard in the past," Barrett added.

The pair said Crotty had gotten a new haircut this week though after getting inspired by 2005 biographical war drama film Jarhead.

That haircut could draw the ire of some other team members though, particularly those affiliated with the mullet movement sparked earlier this year.

The forwards are encouraging NZ to get behind their new trend.

Injured flanker Sam Cane said in September the hairstyle movement he, Liam Squire and Brodie Retallick have started to push inside the All Blacks camp was gaining steam but like all good mullets, it'll take some time.

"We've started to see a bit of a trend that the movement has taken off a wee bit," he said at the time.

The All Blacks face England this Sunday at 4am NZT at Twickenham.
