'Not everyone gets a second shot' – Adam Thomson relishing Otago return

August 7, 2019

The former All Black has returned to his former province at the age of 37.

Former All Black Adam Thomson is home in Otago and wearing his beloved golden 'O' right above his heart. The veteran's return home after a long road of recovery from a serious spinal infection has been very '"special" and emotional, he says.

The 37-year-old says he "wouldn't have it any other way" to play for his beloved Otago and make a comeback in rugby.

"Never thought I'd be here again, especially in a rugby capacity," he tells 1 NEWS.

"If you're going to return to provincial level, you know going back to the team where it all started is a full circle and it's special."

Grateful for the comeback opportunity, Thomson says he is willing to contribute in any way possible.

"I'm just gonna grab this opportunity with both hands and contribute where I can, whether that's playing or being a mentor, helping with coaching or analysis or whatever it is," he says.

"I'll be ready."

The former All Black says he is also ready to do his famous post try celebration if he scores a memorable try. He joked about the young guns trying to push that post try celebration out of him.
