Ben Smith to return for Highlanders' crunch clash with Waratahs

June 11, 2019

Assistant coach Glenn Delaney confirmed the All Blacks fullback will play this weekend.

The Highlanders will be boosted by the return of Ben Smith for Friday night's Super Rugby clash with the Waratahs, needing a bonus point win to keep their season alive.

Having been out of action with a hamstring injury, Smith has been given the green light to return on Friday night in Invercargill, training with the Highlanders' squad this morning.

Speaking to media this afternoon, assistant coach Glenn Delaney said that Smith was ready to play in what could be his last ever match for the Highlanders.

"He's out in training and raring to go," Delaney said.

"That's Ben, he's full of enthusiasm. The best team is going to be put on the park on Friday night.

"Ben's trained today so we'll see how the rest of the week goes. He's had a good morning and he's excited and that tends to mean everyone else is."

The Highlanders' clash with the Waratahs takes place in Invercargill on Friday night NZT.
