All Blacks Sevens keep up perfect Sydney campaign with seven-try thrashing of Spain

February 2, 2019

The All Blacks Sevens have continued their winning ways on their first day of the Sydney Sevens, coming away with an emphatic 41-0 win over Spain.

After an opening 27-14 victory over Wales earlier today , the Kiwi side were back in action this afternoon, with Spain on the receiving end of some classic New Zealand play.

Regan Ware was the first to cross over for New Zealand, getting his side's first in the opening minute, however Andrew Knewstubb couldn't add the extras, seeing the All Blacks Sevens lead 5-0.

Sam Dickson was the next to profit from some slack Spanish defending, finishing off an 80m counter attack, before adding a second towards the end of the first half.

Jona Nareki had the final say in the first half, with Dickson this time playing provider. Knewstubb managed his first conversion after four attempts, as New Zealand took a 22-0 lead into the break.

Joe Ravourvou then scored with the opening touch of the second half, catching the ball from the kick-off before evading the entire Spain side to grab New Zealand's fifth.

Kurt Baker also found himself on the scoresheet, scoring after coming on as a substitute, New Zealand turning a lineout over before again running the length of the field to score.

The All Blacks Sevens would have a seventh to close the game out, Ravouvou adding his second try of the match after a 40m sprint, as New Zealand proved a class above Spain.

New Zealand will finish their first day with a clash against Scotland tonight, looking to go through to the quarter-finals unbeaten.
