'Would they be willing to step up?' - Joseph Parker eager to face winner of Bellew-Haye II

April 25, 2018

Kiwi heavyweight Joseph Parker's next fight could come against one of British duo Tony Bellew and David Haye, as the pair to face each other in the ring once again.

Having lost his WBO title to Anthony Joshua earlier this month, Parker is looking to get back into the ring in another attempt to become a world heavyweight champion.

With Bellew and Haye to renew their rivalry on May 6 NZT, Parker's promoter David Higgins told Sky Sports UK that the winner of the rematch would interest his fighter.

"Of course it would. Joseph Parker himself and our team would back him against almost anyone, and certainly would back him against the winner of Bellew-Haye," Higgins said.

"The question is whether they would be willing to step up? I think most people would see Anthony Joshua at this point as the 'Golden Goose', and the big queue of people sitting on their hands and waiting a year, maybe two years for a shot, which may or may not happen."

Bellew in particular has been a vocal critic of Parker in the past, at one point labelling him the weak link of the three heavyweight world champions, alongside Joshua and American Deontay Wilder.
