Watch: Bald eagle attacks Canadian baseball player during American national anthem

April 6, 2018

An American bald eagle tried to land on a Seattle Mariners baseballer after flying across the field for a pre-game ceremony today - and the player wasn't too fussed.

The eagle took flight at the Mariners vs Twins game in Minneapolis, before setting course for Canadian James Paxton, who was standing to attention for the national anthem with his hat on his heart.

As the eagle tries to land on him, the calm Canadian does little to swat it away or escape, simply avoiding the sharp talons and beak of the 6kg bird of prey.

The eagle's handler rushed out on to the field and took control.

Paxton's nickname is "Big Maple" and he features in a television commercial where he takes care of a nest full of eggs he finds in his hat.
