'They're there to do their job' – Anthony Joshua has no problem with ref after Parker victory

April 1, 2018

This morning's fight was overshadowed by referee Giuseppe Quartarone.

Anthony Joshua refused to lay any criticism towards the officials following his unanimous victory over Joseph Parker in Cardiff this morning after other critics had labelled the refereeing of the bout as "atrocious".

Throughout the fight, referee Giuseppe Quartarone appeared to be stopping the fight at regular intervals, refusing to let Parker build any momentum in Joshua's direction.

Speaking afterwards, Joshua made it clear that he was not going to criticise the officials in any way after his victory.

"Sometimes the judges gets complaints, by fans and fighters - sometimes the ref gets a hard time from fans and fighters," Joshua said.

"I don't really like to put a bad name on the refs and judges. They're there to do their job.

"Parker's trainer should have advised him ways to avoid getting disciplined by the ref, and getting told off by the ref.

"It's not my job to disrespect the referees and the judges."
