Noeline Taurua finally named new Silver Ferns coach

August 30, 2018

Taurua was overlooked for the role in favour of Janine Southby.

Noeline Taurua has been confirmed as the new coach of the Silver Ferns, three years after being overlooked for the position in favour of Janine Southby.

After guiding the Sunshine Coast Lightning to back-to-back titles in Australia's Super Netball League on Sunday, Taurua, a former Silver Fern shooter, has this afternoon been confirmed to take the reigns, following the Silver Ferns' disastrous Commonwealth Games campaign when they finished without a medal for the first time in Games history.

The failure saw Southby resign in the wake of an horrendous 10 months which included historic losses to Jamaica and Malawi.

At a media conference in Auckland today, Taurua confirmed her appointment, stating that her contract runs until the end of the next World Championships in England next year.

The Silver Ferns are next in action in September's Quad Series involving England, Australia and South Africa.
