Watch: Brendon Hartley in the dark over Formula 1 future after making debut

October 23, 2017

The Kiwi driver is hoping for a deal with Toro Rosso after his debut at the US Grand Prix in Austin this morning.

Kiwi driver Brendon Hartley is waiting with baited breath as he bids to secure a fulltime deal with Formula 1 side Toro Rosso, after making his debut at the US Grand Prix in Austin this morning.

Hartley, 27, impressed in his first showing in F1, finishing 13th having started at the back of the grid in 19th position.

With Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly to return at next week's Mexican Grand Prix in Mexico City, either Hartley or Russia's Daniil Kvyat will wait to see if they've done enough to be named as the team's second driver.

Speaking to 1 NEWS' US Correspondent Rebecca Wright after the race this morning, Hartley says that he has no idea whether or not he'll get another opportunity next week.

"Honestly, no," he said.

The Palmerston North native finished 13 at the US Grand Prix in Austin this morning.

"Mexico's coming up pretty quickly, so I'm guessing if I do hear something it'll be fairly soon."
