Brendon Hartley’s Formula 1 dream may be over, but the talented Kiwi driver has options as he leaves Toro Rosso.
Toro Rosso has replaced Hartley with 22-year-old British-born Thai Alexander Albon, after Hartley’s 19th-placed finish this year.
"He has had some unfortunate things happen to him, he hasn't had the best strategic plan... But nonetheless, his job is to beat, or equal, his teammate and he didn't do that on most occasions," Motorsport journalist Bob McMurray told 1 NEWS.
But McMurray added Hartley’s experience and skill as a car developer could still be invaluable to a F1 team.
"I think any team in the grid should pick up someone like Brendon. I would think some teams would do very, very well indeed to keep him on as a reserve driver or something like that."
A return to Porsche could be on the cards, with Formula E another option. Hartley’s camp is expected to comment in the coming days.
