'It couldn't be better!' – Kiwi driver Brendon Hartley beams after securing Formula 1 gig

Kiwi driver Brendon Hartley was beaming yesterday, having secured his position with Italian outfit Toro Rosso for next season's Formula 1 championship.

Hartley, 27, will partner Pierre Gasly in driving for Toro Rosso - made his F1 debut in the Frenchman's absence earlier this year where he finished 13th at the US Grand Prix in Austin.

Speaking to 1 NEWS yesterday, Hartley was over the moon at the news he'd be joining the world's elite drivers in 2018 having taken part in four races this season, experience that's invaluable at the highest level.

"It's the perfect scenario for me," Hartley said.

"Obviously this has all come out of the blue, but if I was going to enter a fresh Formula 1 season with four races under my belt, that's really the ideal scenario."

"It couldn't be better."

Hartley will next be in action for Toro Rosso at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 28 NZT.
