Christchurch based Tongan fans welcomed their victorious team to the Garden City this afternoon, performing a beautiful song for their team after the 28-22 Rugby League World Cup victory over the Kiwis in Hamilton last night.
Having booked their spot in the tournament quarter-finals with their first ever victory over New Zealand, Mate Ma'a Tonga arrived in Christchurch to huge fanfare from their loyal supporters.
The legion of Tongan fans cheered and sung while waiting for their team to touch down, before serenading the victorious side as they entered the arrivals terminal.
Mate Ma'a Tonga will face Lebanon in the tournament quarter-finals at Christchurch’s AMI Stadium on November 18.
