The Warriors are reportedly denying claims made by Shaun Johnson in a social media post that the club are not willing to offer him a contract after his current one expires next year.
Newshub reports Warriors boss Cameron George denied they were not willing to offer Johnson anything, saying there has been no further developments since an early discussion with Johnson’s management.
George added the club has failed to follow up with Johnson and his management as he has been away on international duties with the Kiwis and no consultation has yet taken place since the playmaker’s return.
George hopes to schedule a meeting with Johnson about the issue soon.
The report comes after the 28-year-old took to social media yesterday to address the Warriors’ comments about him made last month, where George said Johnson was free to look at other clubs as the Warriors were in “no rush” to re-sign him.
"Firstly there is no contract for me to sign past 2019," Johnson began.
"Secondly if you saw the article that came out a few weeks back. In a round about way they said they are in no rush to re sign me. Since then they have told me again at this stage they won't be offering me anything."
"That means I get to spread my wings and see what's out there so right now that's what I'm doing!"
"All of you know how much the Warriors mean to me and how grateful I am for the opportunity they have given me to live my dreams and play the sport I love!"
There had been reports shortly after the Warriors’ announcement that the Canberra Raiders were looking to sign Johnson but the club played down the rumour after negotiations slowed down.
