Stephen Kearney urges Warriors fans to remember Shaun Johnson's best

December 10, 2018

Johnson left for the Cronulla Sharks after a major fall-out with his hometown club.

Warriors coach Stephen Kearney is urging fans to remember the good that Shaun Johnson did in his eight years with the club, following the star halfback's move to the Cronulla Sharks.

Having signed for Cronulla last week, Johnson leaves the Warriors as the club's record points scorer, with 917 from his 162 matches since his debut in 2011 - ahead of Stacey Jones.

The halfback's departure has left many Warriors fans hurt and confused, while others appear to be happy to see the back of Johnson, with the view he wasn't worth his $1 million per year salary.

Speaking to media at the club's pre-season training today, Kearney says that Johnson's time at the Warriors should be remembered for the moments of magic, rather than his messy departure.

"It's really important that we remind ourselves of the contribution that he made to our footy club," Kearney began.

"Close to 162 games, he's provided a great deal to our members and fans, that shouldn't be forgotten.

"Amongst all the carry on that's been out there, that should be remembered, it's really important to do that.

"As a footy club, we wish him all the best."

In a strange twist of fate though, Johnson will avoid a return to Mt Smart in the 2019 NRL, with the Warriors hosting the Sharks in Wellington next year.
