New Zealand Warriors purchase agreement set to be finalised 'this week'

April 29, 2018

The Carlaw Park Heritage Trust have agreed to a sale and purchase agreement with owner Eric Watson.

The New Zealand Warriors are close to being sold to the Carlaw Park Heritage Trust, a Trust associated with Auckland Rugby League.

The potential owners of the Warriors have agreed to a sale and purchase agreement with current owner Eric Watson.

ARL's chairman Cameron McGregor wouldn’t appear on camera, preferring to wait until everything is signed.

They are still currently working through a process that is not yet finished.

"There's still a little way to go but we’re working towards a final agreement," said McGregor.

"Hoping to make an announcement later this week. I see no reason why this shouldn’t happen."

Former Kiwis rugby league coach Graham Lowe says having New Zealand owners in charge of the NRL side will boost the game in the country.

"There will be a genuine pathway from grass roots of the game here in Auckland right through to the professional level of the Warriors," said Lowe.

"Pathways are important, the Warriors will argue that it has always been there but they will be highly visible now.

"I think it's the best thing that could happen in the game."
