Kiwis 'need to come together' after Tonga defeat

November 13, 2017

Joseph Tapine urged his side to bounce back from their historic loss in Hamilton.

The Kiwis need to regroup from their historic loss to Tonga last weekend quickly ahead of their Rugby League World Cup quarter-final against Fiji, forward Joseph Tapine says.

Mate Ma'a Tonga stunned the Kiwis 28-22 in Hamilton on Saturday, with their first ever victory over a shell-shocked New Zealand side.

Speaking to media today, Tapine says that the Kiwis need to move on from the loss, or risk being eliminated from the tournament altogether.

"All the boys need to come together, have a good game this week, and put the pressure on," he said.

Tapine was also asked about which members of the Kiwis squad needed to step up before facing Fiji.

"All the boys - young and old."
