Former NRL player Alex McKinnon, who became quadriplegic after horror tackle, welcomes baby girl

October 8, 2018

Former NRL player Alex McKinnon and his wife Teigan have welcomed their first child.

The couple announced the arrival of Harriet Anne McKinnon on social media, sharing an image of the happy family alongside a caption "when 2 became 3".

Harriet's arrival yesterday came one day before the couple's first wedding anniversary.

McKinnon has been recovering from a horror head-high tackle in 2014 that left him quadriplegic.

Despite the setback, McKinnon proposed to his high school sweetheart and married her last year, even rising from his wheelchair to stand at the top of the aisle to wait for his bride.

"I don't think there's many couples who have been through what we've been through and continue to get stronger and stronger," he told Teigan in a video posted to Instagram at the time.

"Our journey together has taken us so many places. Unfortunately, the road that we've been travelling along has sometimes been rough but we've never let it stop us from having a great time."
