Revealed: Black Caps new Test kits feature names and numbers on the back

July 29, 2019

Coach Gary Stead admitted some players questioned the additions but now they’ve seen them, love it.

The Black Caps have unveiled their new Tesk kits for the upcoming season which feature both numbers and player names on the back for the first time.

After 142 years of tradition which saw teams play in white uniforms, the ICC announced a "new era" of Test cricket which sees the addition of names and numbers to the uniforms.

The change, which has sparked plenty of discussion from cricket fans, is part of the the new World Test Championship - a two-year tournament which gives points on the results of every Test played with the top two sides meeting in a final at Lord's in 2021.

Black Caps coach Gary Stead said some players were reserved about the new kit.

"People get to see the players and there's no doubt," Stead said.

"There was a bit of a mixed feeling from the players but now they've seen it, there's some real excitement."

The Black Caps will don the new uniform in their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka with the first Test taking place from August 14-18 in Galle.
