Williamson praises 'admired' Kohli but says Black Caps will focus on entire Indian threat

January 22, 2019

The Black Caps skipper says India has "a number of match winners" in their side.

From one top batsman to another, Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson admits there's an admiration for his "world class" opposite Virat Kohli - but the Kiwi side won't be focusing all their attention solely on him.

Williamson wasn't shy in praising Kohli today ahead of tomorrow's first ODI between the two nations at McLean Park in Napier when asked if the Black Caps had things planned for him.

"Obviously a world class player, Virat, and he's always a challenge to come up against and is someone who is most admired in terms of how he goes about his cricket and he's formidable in his run scoring.

"Definitely a player of note."

The Black Caps skipper was quick to add however that India as a unit were just as much a challenge.

"There's so many quality players in that side so although he is world class, you don't want to get too consumed around one individual because there's a number of match winners in their side.

"You focus on the opposition as a whole."

In the recent ODI series win against Australia, Kohli bounced back from scoring just three runs in the first match to make 104 and 46 in the following two games.

His career average in ODI's is 59.68 with a strike rate average of 92.73.
