'I'll spray all the boys if I get them out' - Aaron Smith on facing All Blacks teammates in Back Clash T20

January 24, 2019

The All Blacks halfback promises to "show no mercy" against Team Rugby in Christchurch tomorrow.

All Blacks star halfback Aaron Smith promises to "show no mercy" against Team Rugby in their Back Clash T20 match in Christchurch tomorrow.

Smith has been named in Team Cricket's side after former Black Caps skipper Brendon McCullum was poached by Sir Graham Henry's Team Rugby yesterday.

Smith says sledging is not out of the question and he's willing to do anything to get a mental edge over his All Blacks teammates.

"Oh I'll spray all the boys if we get them out," said Smith.

The 30-year-old has a bit of cricket experience, having played in high school before choosing a career in rugby.

"Well I have seen Jordie [Barret] bowl and Baz [Beauden Barrett] bowl, they are pretty sharp and I faced Izzy [Israel Dagg] growing up a lot," said Smith.

"So, I know they can turn it on, but I'll try see them off if I get to bat. Hopefully being a rugby player with the cricket guys I might actually get a bowl and a bat so that would be good.

"I'd say I can do a little bit of everything but not a pro at anything, an aggressive fielder with a good bit of chip is what I would say."

Smith said he is looking forward to rubbing shoulders with some of New Zealand's cricket legends.

"I'm looking forward to see what Flem (Stephen Fleming) comes up with our plan of attack and trust me I'll be showing no mercy if I get the chance."

The All Blacks halfback played down his skills with the cricket ball during a media session in Christchurch today.

"Just medium mate, just line and length, right arm over just line and length, yeah I have been in a few net sessions with Reado [Kieran Read] so hopefully I can get to bowl at him."

The T20 Black Clash will be shown live on TVNZ1 on Friday January 25, at 4pm.
