Daniel Vettori arrives at Black Caps practice

Black Caps great Daniel Vettori has been sacked as the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Vettori has been replaced by Gary Kirsten of South Africa.

The 39-year-old's poor last few seasons have cost him, after RCB finished sixth in the IPL this year and were last in the competition in 2017.

The former New Zealand spin bowler had coached Bangalore for the last five IPL seasons and was captain for the team when he played.

RCB's chairman Sanjeev Churiwala said Gary will be a good mentor and head coach for the current playing group.

"During the last IPL season, Gary has proved to be a brilliant mentor to both seasoned and young RCB players," said Churiwala.

"We are confident he would bring a fresh perspective to the team."
