Black Caps confident of India series victory after Eden Park loss: 'We just have to play better'

February 9, 2019

Both sides head to Hamilton for tomorrow's series decider.

The Black Caps are targeting a series clinching victory in Hamilton tomorrow, having surrendered to India by seven wickets at Eden Park last night.

After a convincing victory in Wellington on Waitangi Day, the Black Caps stumbled to a series levelling defeat last night, leaving both sides with all to play for heading into tomorrow's Seddon Park decider.

Speaking to media last night, though, spinner Ish Sodhi said the Black Caps know what they have to do to claim a series win.

"We just have to play better," Sodhi began.

"They played really, really well as well. Their bowlers were fantastic and continued to take wickets.

"We just have to be a little bit better.

Sodhi also said that the scale of the Wellington win proves that the Black Caps are more than able to match India on their given day.

"To be fair, it's pretty hard to criticise too much.

"The last game we played a fantastic game of cricket, we got 220 on the board, and I think we ended up bowling them out as well - it was a really complete performance.

"We can pick apart everything tonight and approach the game really differently on Sunday, but I think if we keep going in with our consistent approach, performances like Wellington aren't too far away."
