Watch: Smoke billows as fire fighters and helicopter battle large scrub fire outside Kaitaia Airport

Two helicopter and 25 fire fighters are battling a large scrub fire which has closed the Northland airport.

A large scrub fire raging beside Kaitaia Airport in Northland has two helicopters and 25 fire fighters trying to contain it.

Kaitaia Airport has been closed by fire fighters and is being used as access to the blaze.  

A nearby Maori school has also been evacuated due to the risk the fire poses.
