Numerous trees fell overnight, with many falling on to property or vehicles.

Winds of up to 200km/h in  Auckland overnight has caused trees to topple across the region.

Footage caputered by 1 NEWS shows the damage including a tree that's fallen on a car.

Winds of more than 100km/h pulled down powerlines leaving many homes cut off.
