An Auckland boatie has saved a baby dolphin from a slow and painful death after it was spotted tangled in fishing line.
Steve Hathaway was cruising with friends near Waiheke Island over the weekend when he spotted the dolphin struggling to swim.
A bundle of netting was cutting into its fin.
Hathaway, who runs a charity called Young Ocean Explorers , hopes the video serves as a warning to those fishing the Hauraki Gulf this summer to be mindful of their waste.
