Waikato woman accused of impersonating DHB workers to enter homes of elderly, steal meds

February 13, 2019
Opioids both legal and illicit have contributed to the deaths of thousands of Americans during the ongoing drug overdose crisis (file).

A woman has been charged after allegedly stealing medication from the elderly across the Waikato region.

The woman claimed to be from the Waikato DHB in order to gain entry into their homes, police said.

The victims, some of whom live in retirement villages, would then discover that their medication was missing, according to investigators.

The woman has been arrested and charged with burglary.

She is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Friday.

Further charges are likely, police say.

Anyone who has fallen victim to similar types of offending but has not reported the incident to police has been advised to contact Constable Mark Soffe, of the Hamilton Tactical Crime Team, on 021 191 2384.
