Waikato town orders water restrictions after breakdown at treatment plant

January 11, 2019

Ngaruawahia residents are being urged to preserve water after a breakdown at the Waikato town's water treatment plant last night.

Locals are being asked to limit their water use to drinking, cooking and sanitary needs from today.

Waikato District Council water manager Karl Pavlovich told 1 NEWS “we could potentially hit trouble” if residents don’t restrict their water usage.

Pavlovich said the council was alerted to the issue last night. He explained there was a faulty part which meant no water could be preserved overnight.

The restriction was put in place as a “precautionary” measure as a lot of the storage water had been used.

Locals are being asked to restrict their water usage throughout the weekend as well.

“The more the community can get on board and help, the better,” he said.

For further updates, residents are being advised to check the Waikato District Council Facebook page.
