Video: Waterfall alert! University of Canterbury computer labs flooded as water gushes through ceiling

October 4, 2017

Students and staff have been evacuated from two basement computer labs which have been inundated with flood water at the University of Canterbury's Ilam campus.

Video uploaded to Snapchat and Facebook shows the University of Canterbury’s Erskine Building flooding today.

The clip shows a colossal amount of water pouring from the roof of the Computer Science building onto iMacs in a computer lab.

A spokesperson for the university told 1 NEWS the flood was caused by a plumbing failure in the ceiling above the computer labs.

They say students and staff members have been evacuated from the labs and all the power has been isolated.

The rest of the building is unaffected and will remain open as usual, but it could be some weeks before the computer labs are back up and running.
