According to those questioned on the 1 NEWS Vote Compass online tool most Kiwis agree that more needs to be done to protect New Zealand's environment, particularly on the issue of cleaning up our waterways.
The dirty and degraded state of many of our rivers was the subject of one of the questions on the Vote Compass tool.
A massive 83 per cent of respondents believe the government should do more to reduce water pollution in the country.
National's set targets to make 90 per cent of rivers swimmable by 2040, but the Vote Compass data shows most Kiwis believe it's not enough.
Jack Vowles from Victoria University told 1 NEWS: "National need to be careful not to be seen to be suddenly shifting policy in the lead-up to an election.
"It may potentially viewed as an acknowledgement that they haven't done enough until now."
Whichever parties form the next government, it's clear voters want more done to protect the environment.
