Tragic Easter weekend road fatalities lifts already-high road toll

Th 2018 Easter holiday weekend road toll now stands at four, doubling 2017. 

The official Easter holiday period for 2018 began at 4pm Thursday, March 29 and will end at 6am tomorrow.

The road toll included 55-year-old Denise Tito of Taupo who died after a crash in Waikato on Friday morning.

Two young boys, aged four and two months, were victims in the tragic Desert Rd crash on Friday.

A person also died at the scene in Rotorua after a a truck and motorcycle crash on Saturday morning. 

Two people died in road accidents during the Easter holiday period last year.

The two fatal crashes resulted in the deaths of one driver and one pedestrian. 

Police want to remind travellers heading home from their Easter break to be patient, and watch their following distances.
