Ashburton petrol station robbed at knife point

Police are investigating after a petrol station in Ashburton was robbed on Thursday night.

Police say the suspect, armed with a large knife, entered the Z petrol station in Tinwald, Ashburton, at around 7pm.

The sole station attendant locked herself in an office after seeing the suspect enter the store.

The armed suspect jumped over the counter and attempted to open the till before removing the till and fleeing with its contents on foot.
