Timaru couple providing 'first landing pad' for people who've left West Coast's Gloriavale

August 27, 2018

Seven Sharp’s Michael Holland has the story of the pair who now live in Timaru.

A kind-hearted Timaru couple have been taking in families who flee Gloriavale with little more than the clothes on their backs.

Graham and Liz Gregory have been opening the doors of their home to people leaving lives of communal conformity.

"We like to see this as their first landing pad," Liz told TVNZ1's Seven Sharp.

The Gregory's current house guests are a family of 11 that chose to walk away from Gloriavale.

Supported by a team of helpers, a "crew" as they call them, the Gregory's will help navigate the families through everything from opening back accounts, to transport, finding accommodation and work.

Liz and Graham say their help comes with no strings attached and "it's so humbling and beautiful to be involved".

Watch the caring couple carry out their good work in the video above.
