An additional two people were diagnosed with the virus after arriving from overseas, the Director-General of Health said.

New Zealand has three new cases of Covid-19 in the community, the Director-General of Health announced today.

Dr Ashley Bloomfield gave the latest figures at this afternoon's 1pm press conference in Wellington.

There are two new cases in managed isolation - a woman in her 50s and a man in his 30s. No travel information was given in the press conference but both have been transported to Auckland's quarantine facility.

The new cases bring the total confirmed cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand since the pandemic began to 1344. The total number of active cases is 134, of which 21 were detected in managed isolation.

There are nine people currently in hospital with Covid-19 - two in Auckland City, three in North Shore and four in Middlemore. Three of those cases - one in North Shore and two in Middlemore - are in intensive care and considered critical.

Dr Bloomfield said two of the new community cases are contact cases but the other is under investigation. He also said a case from yesterday which was initially classified as a household contact has now been put under investigation as well.

The Director-General also noted there have been 2422 close contacts identified so far in the Auckland outbreak, of which 2368 have been contacted, are self-isolating and testing.

To date, 163 people linked to the new cluster have been moved to the Auckland quarantine facility, including 90 confirmed cases and their household contacts.

There were 8559 test carried out yesterday also, taking New Zealand's total to date to 710,063.
