A Tauranga mum is grieving after losing her 14-year-old brother in the Christchurch mosque attacks on Friday.
Sayyad Milne was a student at Cashmere High School in Year 10 who attended the Al Noor Mosque with family every Friday.
"He was a typical Kiwi kid and he did not deserve this," his sister, from a shared father, Brydie Henry told Seven Sharp through tears.
Sayyad was at the mosque with his mother Noraini when the attack happened.
She survived the attack where her son did not.
"I can't imagine how that felt," Mrs Henry said.
Mrs Henry flew to Christchurch to be with her family as they try and make sense of the tragedy.
"Sayyad was just this cool kid. Just a typical kiwi boy.
"He was a real football boy, we all signed a football today, knowing that's him," she said.
There still hasn't been a formal identification of Sayyad's body but his family knows "he didn't make it".
His sister says she will remember him as a "gentle, kind, very quiet, loving boy."
