Shallow 4.6 magnitude earthquake strikes off Nelson coast

April 5, 2018

A shallow 4.6 magnitude earthquake has struck off the Nelson coast at the top of the South Island this afternoon.

The quake was located 50km west of Collingwood.

GeoNet placed the quake's depth at a very shallow 2km.

However only 241 people have reported feeling it due to the quake striking off the coast in a largely unpopulated area.
