Serious crash leaves SH2 closed and four people hospitilised near Tauranga

A crash involving three cars outside Tauranga this afternoon has closed part of State Highway 2 and left four people hospitalised. 

Police were called to the crash in Whakamarama at 3.30pm today. 

Four people were taken to Tauranga Hospital, one with critical injuries, one with serious injuries and two with moderate/minor injuries. 

Diversions on State Highway 2 are in place. 

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and motorists should expect delays.
