Parent’s worst nightmare realised after daughter dies from anaphylactic fit

December 17, 2018

Edyn Rubena-Misilisi, who had a peanut allergy, suffered a fatal anaphylactic fit five weeks ago.

One family is hoping to spread awareness of food allergies after their 16-year-old daughter died following a severe reaction to nuts.

Five weeks ago, Edyn Rubena-Misilisi suffered a fatal anaphylactic fit and through their grief, her parents Morris and Bonita have found strength to raise awareness around the dangers of food allergies.

"We don’t want anyone else to go through this," Edyn’s mum told TVNZ1's Tagata Pasifika.

From a young age Edyn suffered from a peanut allergy and her parents did everything they could to protect her.

"We don’t know what she ate or when she ate it, sometimes it depends on the amount that she ingested that was in it.

"We just don’t know what she ate."

After five days in hospital Edyn died in hospital.

With Christmas approaching, her parents want families to be aware of the dangers of food allergies.
