Northland forestry block fire contained by crews

A pine tree forest fire which closed a road in Northland today has now been contained.

Fire and Emergency NZ says the forestry block fire at Rawene in the Hokianga burnt through ten hectares of pine forest.

Crews were first called to the blaze around 3pm this afternoon.

The blaze has caused the closure of Rawene Road, which is expected to open again shortly.
