Mental health advocate and New Zealander of the Year Mike King is asking Kiwis to give generously today to his charity drive Gumboot Friday.
Mr King, who has worked extensively in the mental health sector, says it should be normalised for people to have problems and to work through them.
"For a lot of kids, they're struggling," he said on TVNZ1's Breakfast today.
"I would really like to normalise having problems and make it OK for young people to ask for help while the problems are small before they become major."
Donations can be made at gumbootfriday.com or at any business where the Gumboot Friday gumboot is on display, including Kiwibank branches.
