School holidays mean our roads are more occupied than usual with drivers of all ages getting behind the wheel.
But with that comes more risks – in the 12 months to the end of August, 379 people have died on our roads.
Unfortunately, our younger drivers are the most at-risk but a new programme is giving them practical experience in the hope it'll create more confident and aware drivers.
TVNZ1's Seven Sharp sent out their resident young person and reporter Tamati Rimene-Sproat to see if he could learn some tips from the course.
