The MP for Botany, is the latest to back front-running Bill English.

National MP Jami-Lee Ross will be taking time off from Parliament for personal health issues.

National Party leader Simon Bridges said in a statement the MP "will be stepping back from his portfolio responsibilities and from the Opposition front bench".

Mr Ross holds the seat for Botany in Auckland.

"His Transport portfolio will be picked up by Paul Goldsmith and his infrastructure responsibilities by Judith Collins."

Mr Bridges said he would not make any further comment "given this is a private matter but I can confirm this decision is unrelated to the ongoing leak investigation".

Mr Ross said he had been dealing with personal health issues.

"There are times in life where you have to put your own health and family first. As a husband and a father I need to do that at this time.

"That is why I have asked to have some time off on medical leave for a few months."

He said he would look forward to returning to Parliament.
