Fire crews have extinguished a room fire at Wellington's Harbour City Motor Inn that broke out around 8am this morning.

Three appliances remian on site and a Fire investigator is heading to the scene.

Emergency services were first called to the motel on Webb St, Te Aro at 8:08am this morning, after they were alerted to the fire through the building's alarm system.

Six appliances worked to put out the fire while the motel was evacuated.
