Man charged after large quantity of drugs, firearms found in Waikato property

A man has been arrested and charged after a large quantities of class A drugs, cash and an assortment of firearms were found during a police search of a rural property in Waikato yesterday.

Officers found half a kilo of dried cannabis plant material, methamphetamine, cannabis oil, small quanitites of LSD, ecstasy, and an assortment of other class A controlled drugs and prescription medicines after raiding the home in Te Poi, south of Matamata, police said.

A significant amount of cash and nine firearms and ammunition were also recovered, including a .22 rifle, two shotguns, various high-powered hunting rifles and an M4 military-style semi-automatic rifle.

Cannabis was also found growing at the address in concealed cabinets inside the home, as well as outdoors, police said.

"This is a significant result again for our teams here in Waikato and we are committed to reducing the supply of drugs and reducing criminal offending," etective Senior Sergeant Steve Ambler said.

A 34-year-old is due to reappear in court on February 18 on serious drug and firearm offences.
