Magnitude-4.6 earthquake widely felt near Christchurch this morning

It struck near the town of Rolleston, just south of Christchurch.

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 has been widely felt near Christchurch this morning.

GeoNet reported the quake took place at 7.26am about 20km south-west of Christchurch - near Rolleston - at a depth of 10km.

It was reportedly widely-felt along the eastern coast of Canterbury, with a few reports coming in as far away as Wellington - and even a few in Auckland.
