Lime e-scooters looking to launch in Tauranga

The Seven Sharp host takes to the streets of Auckland to make sure footpaths are safe.

A representative from Lime, the scooter sharing service, has made a short presentation to the Tauranga City Council asking for an operating permit.

During the presentation councillors raised the issue of safety and asked about helmets.

Lime says it has employed more than 90 local people since launching in Auckland and Christchurch.

It says more than 100,000 people have registered, making 300,000 trips on their e-scooters.

The company will continue to work with the council, and no launch date has been set.
