Matty McLean wasn’t also the biggest fan of the hip-hop inspired inflight video – “I hate it”.

New Zealanders have expressed their relief after Air New Zealand pulled their widely disliked inflight safety video.

The national carrier's latest effort - It's Kiwi Safety - was heavily criticised after release late last year.

It featured Kiwi actor Julian Dennison and musicians Kings, Theia and Rand, but the reviews were not kind, with the likes of NZ First MP Shane Jones and Breakfast host Hayley Holt among those to express their disapproval in public.

It will be replaced by the Summer of Safety video, starring Joe Naufahu from Game of Thrones and Jayden Daniels from Shortland Street.

The news was greeted positively by readers on the 1 NEWS Facebook page, with the vast majority of those commenting expressing their approval It's Kiwi Safety would no longer by screened.

Winsome Ansty commented, “I can hear a collective sigh of relief ripping through Aotearoa."

“I watched it today and what a disaster, thank goodness it’s been taken down,” says Kevin Higgan.

“Oh what a huge relief! An absolutely embarrassing video,” says Lynette Brown.

Steve Reeve said: "Thank goodness for that. I am a fan of Air NZ but this safety video was not at all fit for purpose. In fact it was an absolute shocker - totally irritating and completely wide of the mark. Moving on!"

The Summer of Safety previously showcased to more than 17 million people around the world.

It will be reintroduced on international and domestic services over the coming weeks.
